Fox Glacier Guiding Team Leader – Training Manager

Purpose of Position:   As a member of the Guiding Management Team, coordinate and lead the training
program and assist with operations of the guiding department to ensure that we
provide a first class guiding service.

Reports to:                      Guiding Manager (GM)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Training
  • To coordinate and implement the training, development and recording programs in conjunction with the Guiding Management team achieving company goals as set in the Safety Management System.
  • Work with the GM to review the guides training program quality and effectiveness and identify areas for improvement;
  • Update and develop training materials under direction of GM;
  • Manage development of relevant guiding training targets for FGG in consultation with the GM and coordinate the Guiding Management Team to achieve these;
  1. Operational
  • As part of the Guiding Management Team, make decisions relating to operations of the guiding department; including and not limited to glacier weather and environmental conditions, logistics, guiding standards, vehicles and equipment;
  • Promote positive working relationships amongst the staff and provide support for staff;
  • Lead by example and encourage people to use initiative, practice excellent communication and strive to achieve a harmonious workplace;
  • Work with the GM, Marketing Manager and Sales Team to ensure that the guiding product is in line with the marketed product, that bookings are dealt with professionally and in a timely manner and that customer demands are monitored and met;
  1. Safety
  • Work with GM to ensure that all activities undertaken by the Guiding operation are carried out in accordance with the FGG Safety Management System;
  • Oversee compliance in relation to FGG policies, procedures, directives and standards specifically with regards to safety. Train others to understand and comply with these policies;
  • Identify safety issues and problems, and assist with corrective action being taken and monitored;
    Pro-actively confront others about safety or security violations;
  • Assist in compliance with the relevant statutory requirements and legislation;
  1. Leadership
  • Support the GM in ensuring that the FGG Company Values are upheld at all times and consistently demonstrate those values;
  • Recognise and advise development/training needs and communicate these through the FGG guide training and PRP processes;

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven team leadership ability and experience training;
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand;
  • At least three seasons guiding on hard ice;
  • NZMGA Hard Ice Guide qualification (or overseas equivalent);
  • Current First Aid qualification – PHEC (or overseas equivalent);
  • A full class drivers licence (preferably Class 2 with a passenger endorsement);
  • Expertise sufficient to train employees in skills required for a heli-access glacier guiding operation

 

PREFERABLE SKILLS:

  • Ability to create, communicate, and maintain systems of record keeping and ensure quality and consistency of training experience for all staff
  • Able to analyse areas of training need and synthesize feedback and assessments of ability
  • Demonstrate ability to mentor, observe and assess guiding skills

 

Job offer is conditional on passing a drug and alcohol test.
